Are you ready to join a small, dynamic team in a fast-paced environment? Universal Hardware Supplies, a leading supplier of Architectural Ironmongery in South Wales, is seeking to appoint an experienced Sales and Ironmongery Specification Consultant to forge ahead in 2025. We are a long-established, independent family-run business with a thriving Trade Centre and a busy Showroom. As Ironmongery Sales and Specification Consultant, you will play a vital role in our small team, providing expert knowledge and superb customer service whilst liaising with our internal Trade team. We specify and supply architectural hardware to the Commercial, Education, Healthcare, Residential, Hospitality and Private Sectors.
Your Role:
You will use Intec Scheduling software and our system software to schedule and price Architectural Ironmongery specifications from information/plans given by clients. You will ensure that the Ironmongery specified meets the requirements of current building regulations and fire door certification whilst ensuring that company margins are protected and customer expectations are met.
You will take charge of existing clients, liaising directly with buyers and specifiers to support our quotations and develop meaningful relationships. You will be responsible for generating business from buyers and specifiers, building contractors, architects, local authorities and health boards as well as quantity surveyors, architects and end-users.
You will diligently nurture potential sales opportunities with new clients and develop new opportunities for the business, whilst maintaining a high level of professional conduct.
You will push forward with our recent project, in partnership with a local manufacturer, to provide door sets. You will represent the business at industry events.
You will collaborate with our team members to ensure smooth running of projects and follow projects through from start to completion including Ironmongery order dates and delivery dates.
Relevant Experience:
You will have relevant estimating and scheduling experience in Architectural Ironmongery
You will have experience in commercially analysing ironmongery schedules in conjunction with door schedules, general arrangement drawings, fire strategy drawings, lock suiting strategies and NBS P21 specifications. An appreciation of the criteria of L20 specifications and previous experience in supplying "Integrated Doors and Ironmongery" packages is preferable.
Ideally, you will have a GAI qualification: either Reg AI or a Diploma in Scheduling however you will be given the opportunity to study/qualify with the GAI if necessary.
Ideally, you will have a demonstrable track record in specification sales and a knowledge of local customers/companies would be advantageous.
Ideally your home base is within the greater Swansea/South Wales area and you must be fit to travel to meet clients with overnight stays once or twice a month, when needed. Your work base will be our office in Swansea. Hybrid working options can be discussed with time.

Our Trade Centre will be closed from 1.30 pm on Monday 23rd December until 8 am on Thursday 2nd January. We will also be closed Saturday 21st December.
Our Showroom will be closed from now until Monday 6th January.

Firstly, Paul Thomas, our Showroom Manager, has officially retired from work! We will miss him dearly and wish him the best of luck in his new adventure in Romania with his wife and new family!

Secondly, we are excited to tell you that we have changed the way we work at our fabulous Showroom!
Since 2nd September, the Showroom will be by appointment only and opening hours will not be regular
All walk-in Showroom enquiries will now be handled by our skilled team at our Trade Centre. Our experienced team will be able to help you there and then or advise if you need a longer appointment with our Showroom Team. This change means that you will receive a more personalized service and dedicated time with an adviser if you need it. We're here to help, no matter the size of your enquiry.

Showroom Temporarly closed due to holiday

Our Showroom is closed until Tuesday 30th July to allow our staff to have a well-earned break. Sorry for any inconvenience.
Our Trade Centre is open as usual, Monday to Thursday 8 am to 4.30 pm, Friday 8 am to 4 pm and Saturday mornings 8.30 am to 12 midday. You're welcome to place orders here and collect outstanding orders too.
